About Me

Johnny Byrne was born in 1962 in New York City.

A well respected drummer who has appeared in many types of settings performing within many genres, Johnny Byrne’s impressive technique and flexibility have kept him touring and performing throughout the last 25 years.

Johnny started playing drums at the age of seven, influenced by the sights and sounds of New York City, and then as a resident of Miami, Florida during his youth. He attended the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in Music, all the while honing his skills by training in New York City with Roberto Pedacchio and by performing throughout the United States in a variety of venues.

His understanding of contemporary music, from contemporary to Jazz to Pop and his mastery of Bossa Nova make him an accomplished and complete musician. He has performed all over the world with countless artists/musicians and has earned a reputation for his skills as a live performer and studio musician.

Johnny has played with artists such as - Clarence Clemmons, Todd Bradley & Next Level, Donna Allen, Cornelius Rose & Sister Rose, Blue Notes, Eugene Wilde, Nicole, Emmanuel, and Jazz Saxophonist, Ed Calle.

Johnny's most recent engagement has been recording and performing throughout southern California with Steve Cooke of New Zealand and Latin Jazz Fusion artist Rodrigo Lopez.

Johnny is a true believer in the importance of music education and the performing arts.  In 2006, he premiered what has become an annual event in Orange County, the Drummer’s Showcase featuring the county’s top drummers.  In 2010, he founded the West Coast Music Foundation which will provide music education scholarships for aspiring young musicians in southern California.

Johnny currently resides in Corona, California, where he maintains a busy schedule of studio work, performances and a clientele of aspiring musicians made up of adults and youths.
