About Me

Johnny Byrne was born in 1962 in New York City.

A well respected drummer who has appeared in many types of settings performing within many genres, Johnny Byrne’s impressive technique and flexibility have kept him touring and performing throughout the last 25 years.

Johnny started playing drums at the age of seven, influenced by the sights and sounds of New York City, and then as a resident of Miami, Florida during his youth. He attended the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in Music, all the while honing his skills by training in New York City with Roberto Pedacchio and by performing throughout the United States in a variety of venues.

His understanding of contemporary music, from contemporary to Jazz to Pop and his mastery of Bossa Nova make him an accomplished and complete musician. He has performed all over the world with countless artists/musicians and has earned a reputation for his skills as a live performer and studio musician.

Johnny has played with artists such as - Clarence Clemmons, Todd Bradley & Next Level, Donna Allen, Cornelius Rose & Sister Rose, Blue Notes, Eugene Wilde, Nicole, Emmanuel, and Jazz Saxophonist, Ed Calle.

He has also toured and recorded with KC & the Sunshine Band on the Get Down Live and Yummy compilations.  He played throughout Europe, Asia, Indonesia, and Central & South America.

Johnny's most recent engagement has been recording and performing throughout southern California with Steve Cooke 

Johnny taught at West Coast Drum Center for 12 years and is currently on the teaching staff at Jim’s Music  in Tustin, California.

He currently lives in Southern California, where he maintains a busy schedule of studio work, performances and a clientele of aspiring musicians made up of adults and youths.
